Vanilla comes from the orchid genus, Vanilla planifolia and is the world’s second most expensive spice, after saffron. The Vanilla bean is a long, narrow seed-filled bean that has greenish-yellow seedpods. It has a sweet perfumed aroma with a woody or smoky flavor, similar to pure vanilla extract.
